Well, we are just over a week into our Grocery
Challenge 2012 and things are starting to get a little more interesting.
Our pantry of canned/pre-packaged items and our freezer are still overflowing,
but our fridge is officially bare.
I’ve decided not to buy more chai, I’m going to take one for
the team and work on drinking the 5 gallons (no joke) of juice we have stored
in the laundry room. Bill doesn’t drink pop, he’s a juice guy, and somehow over
the last few months we’ve really acquired an incredibly high volume of juice.
We killed a gallon of orange yesterday, now we’re onto white grape peach. It is
delicious, but in the morning that surge of sugar is leaving me hungry all day.
By 10:30 I am staring at my morning
snack, talking myself out of being hungry so I can wait to eat it until 11.
...immediately after which I am ravenous for lunch. Oh, carbohydrates….
Last night I went on a coffee (turned dinner) date with an old college friend of mine & we
gabbed for hours about weddings & houses. It was awesome to get some solid
girl time in! I didn’t realize how much time I just spend in our condo planning
& obsessing over the move. She is also moving in the next few weeks so we
are both on the same level of crazy right now.
I came home to Bill eating sauerkraut, red beans & rice, French
onion soup, and a popsicle for dinner (okay, I had a popsicle too). He promptly
asked me if I had started a grocery list & I said, “Why would I? We aren’t
shopping…” to which he replied, “Well I finished the A1 & I want to make
sure we buy more after the move.” I thought nothing of it and began a list of
condiments we will need to replace after the move, then my wheels started
turning to, “How did he finish the A1 if he had rice & beans for dinner…?”
– I immediately changed the subject in my mind and choose not to know the answer.
A few nights ago I sat on the floor in the kitchen with
Princess & finished a jar of pickles as my appetizer (NOTE: The less food you have in the fridge, the more acceptable it is to eat on the floor of your kitchen). We also have an
unusually high volume of mini pretzels? Which I’m not sure when we bought them,
but they have been my lunch staple for the week. We are really keeping it
classy….Can’t wait to see how the next 36 days go!
