Kitchen and Bedroom Renovation: Step 1

2

Every renovation has to start somewhere, and for me it starts with color.

I used Pinterest to inspire me originally and thought the bedroom would look something like one of these photos:

And our kitchen would look something like one of these:

However, upon further research Hubs and I found the perfect palettes for our home. We are combining two we found through Better Homes & Gardens and I am thrilled!! These palettes are perfect for our lifestyle and I feel they will really take our home to the next level of comfort for us.

Using these palettes, Hubs and I trekked to our local home improvement store and picked out the colors we felt best fit the rooms we are designing.

Corn Husk Green is going to be our kitchen, Smokey Blue will be two walls in our bedroom and Beach White will be the other two walls of the bedroom. Any remaining paint will be saved for a bathroom down the road.

Yesterday I removed the border in our bedroom with a wallpaper steamer I scored from Freecycle. Start to finish that project took me 40 minutes. Can all projects please be that fast?! What a party!!!

I'm not sure I ever shared the wallpaper in our bedroom with you...but if you were curious, this is what we've been living with for the last 6 months (photo taken the day we moved in):

Ooooh yeah baby. I took more "before" photos yesterday to share with all of you, but you have to wait to enjoy them. In the meantime just appreciate this nasty camera-phone version of our bedroom with side lamps that I promise are not that bright... Just enjoy that awesome wallpaper border like I have the last 6 months.

When you want to start a new project, where do you begin?

  1. Ooh, this makes me wish I could paint! I'm sort of thinking of buying a condo here in CT. The thing is, I don't want to commit because—whether the mister likes it or not—I want to move to a warmer climate. I'd love to own our own place, though. I guess I can live vicariously through you, haha.

I love the palette you chose. I can't wait to see the final product!
