The next big piece of this project will come in the spring, we are planning to replace the floors! It is very cold since this is our "basement", so we will be adding a very durable carpet with thick, foil lined padding to keep the cold out and the warm in.
You can view the inspiration for the room here.
As you can see, this space was simply a dead-end catch-all for random items we weren't really using or hadn't stuffed into the crawl space yet.
Some things I unfortunately could not move out of the space entirely, so until a new place is found for them, they will remain tenants of the room. That said, I'm still thrilled with the shift in lighting and mood of the space now. It is such a light, happy place! The children's toys probably add to that.
We found this spectacular little yellow couch on clearance at the Macy's Furniture Gallery a few miles away. I wasn't sold on it the first day we saw it, but after thinking about how it could work in the space, I soon fell in love. I hadn't planned on having an accent wall, but when we ran out of paint I realized it was time to be flexible. Thankfully, I had this fabulous color of remnant paint in the closet! How handy it is to have a stash of miscellaneous buckets of paint :)
I had to add a print that follows me in every work space I occupy, since it was my Valentine's Day gift from Bill a few years ago. It is perfect and I think it adds a fun pop of color on that wall. I have another great print on the way, which I will share when it arrives! Like I said, the space is just a working document, it will constantly evolve and change as I do!
I would be lying if I didn't admit to spending many an early morning on this couch, cuddled in the throw, watching a show on my iPad while sipping tea and letting Billy roam free in the space.
Having a spot to just trust he is safe to play and explore where I can also work and relax is beyond belief. When I brainstormed the room, I thought it was too good to be true...and honestly thought it was months or years until completion. This space feels like home to me. Having warmer flooring will be like icing on the cake!Princess LOVES spending the day with us in here also, as you can see. She's always at my side or Billy's.
I asked Hubs to go to Home Depot and pick up a space heater....he came home with this little beauty. Does life get better than having your own electric fireplace?! I think not. Add to that; it's cool to the touch, so completely safe for exploring little fingers.
As you can tell, I'm in love with the space. It is completely my happy place and I love every inch of it more every day. Soon I will organize my crafting materials and move them in here with me...I see this room as a fine wine. It will just get better with age :)
I LOVE it! My favorite is the accent wall and that fabulous little sofa. I'm so jealous LOL. We have a spare room that I've considered doing this too (it's a storage room mostly with desk and bookcase) but I'm worried about how I like to be in the kitchen a lot when I'm making baby food and cooking and stuff. But at the same time, it'd be nice to get some toys out of my living room and nice for her to have a safe place to play. Great job with your rooM!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sasha!!!
DeleteLove it! You are so lucky to have a space like this! Our daily play spot is the middle of our living room and what once was a cute, decorated space, now looks like a toy explosion!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! It is a huge relief to have our living room back
