A Few of My Favorite Things

1

As promised and without further adieu, I present you, our Christmas Tree 2012.

We used to buy our little tiny trees for the condo at Home Depot because they were convenient and cheap while we were doing our Black Friday shopping, but last year we decided it's more important to support local business than it is to shop conveniently. There is a great garden center near us with really stunning trees and the tree we picked this year is no exception!! Totally in love with how full it is - you can't even see the trunk!

Hubs and I love to travel and on our adventures we like to collect ornaments and write the year on them so we remember what we did that year. We started it the very first Christmas we were together, when we went to Augustana to visit Hubby's college friends.

I'm so glad we started it early - every year when we decorate the tree we remember all those fun things we did! Here are a few more of my faves:

Sand from our honeymoon in Punta Cana, 2011

"Wooden Shoes" from Holland
Museum of Science and Industry Tree Exhibit, 2010

Of course we had to get an ornament
when we got our baby Princess!

Today we went to the Shedd Aquarium to
see the jellies and we saw a baby beluga whale!
Do you have any traditions while you travel or keepsakes from little adventures you take along the way?

  1. Since we have kids now, we decided to start a new Christmas tree. It always looks pretty bare still but each year we all pick out one new ornament to put on the tree. We plan on continuing this as the boys get older until the tree is full of ornaments. (the kids will take turns picking out an ornament they think our pup Mr. Guiness will like)
For traveling, while my great grandmother was alive I would pick her up thimbles and keep them all until we would go visit her. (She lived in a different state) I don't know how this started but it was always so fun to go visit her and watch her take all the thimbles out of the bag and put them in her display. I am so grateful to say that I was able to share so many memories with not just one but two of my great grandmothers.
