Summer Lovin'

1

We're down to 6 days now. In 6 days, we will own a home. We will move. We will no longer live in our town. This is so...surreal.

Our close date being pushed back was a blessing in disguise, like God wanted to give us one last Hometown Fest (which, everyone knows is the best week of the year to live in our town). Last night Bill had a show at the Fest with his band and I sat with a ton of our friends and family members in the sweltering heat, enjoying the music and cheering Bill on.

We stayed out way too late for a work night, smelled way too dirty to be considered healthy, and ate way too many fried things. And still, I'm counting the minutes until we can all meet up and do it again tonight for the big fireworks show. I feel like we're in high school. The fest surrounds us with young, budding romance, food we shouldn't eat at all, and the constant companionship of people who love us. I'm so grateful this is how we're spending our last week living here. I can't imagine it any other way. All these bittersweet moments are building like a ship about to set sail. "Bon Voyage, Palatine!"

The moment we move to our new home, our lives will change forever. They will change in wonderful ways, but these moments of walking home from a celebration will be gone, along with walking across the street to get dinner, visit the Car Show or get a haircut. We will begin the next chapter of our lives and things will continue to change from there. I am drinking in every memory in these last 6 days that I possibly can. I will miss our town.

  1. It will ALWAYS be our town! We just won't be able to walk to it the way we are now. :)
