Blown Away
Last night we brought over four more loads of stuff (it seems never ending), including “The Dudes” aka our two cats. We all slept in the new house like a big, happy family.
The dishes have been unpacked and washed (IN OUR DISHWASHER BECAUSE NOW WE HAVE ONE OF THOSE!) and the longer we’re in the house, the less it smells like “OLD”.
While I was unpacking linen closet items I found an air freshener and immediately plugged it in. After about 25 minutes the whole house REALLY smelled like the fragrance (Eucalyptus Spearmint, my fave) and I thought, “Wow! I don’t remember the scent being so strong in the condo…air flow here must be better” and then I hear Bill… “JESS! I plugged that air freshener in UPRIGHT instead of on it’s side. It leaked….EVERYWHERE.”
Oops. No wonder it smelled so FRESH! Good news is: It killed the musty/moth ball smell REALLY FAST! Bad news is: there was essential oil ALL OVER our second bath. #MyBad A little elbow grease and some all-purpose cleaner took care of it quickly and we had a clean, fresh bathroom. Really fresh. Almost too fresh. But, better than “OLD”!
After unpacking some closet items and kitchen items, I assisted while Bill took down some random wall fixtures. Headboards we didn’t understand were removed, among other things we didn’t understand that just didn’t fit our lifestyle.
Slowly, but surely this space is becoming our own.
We slept on an air mattress with Princess at our feet, guarding us from every noise all night (lots of growling). Waking up in the new space was like a dream. I’m still in a fog of “Is this real life?” because I can’t believe it’s really ours. I am simply blown away. I cannot wait to share photos of our new home with you as we create the spaces and make them “our own”.
Tonight I will make a few more trips and sleep on a real bed. While air mattresses seemed like fun at childhood sleepovers, they’re less fun with two adults who frequently toss and turn (and a Pit Bull with an over-enthusiastic wag).
I feel less like a zombie today and more like a sophisticated adult. However, I still have a childish little voice inside me that wants to stop every person I see and say, “WE JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE”. I can only contain so much of that voice...thank goodness I have you guys :)
